Sharon Bramble is an Educational Consultant and creator of the ALERT Learning Program: a multisensory skills-based system of literacy acquisition.

The program, which caters for visual, auditory and kinaesthetic learners, has been successfully piloted in a number of primary schools across the state with Base data - individual, stage based, whole school and NAPLAN - indicating vast improvements.

The explicit system is currently in the final stages of a four-year trial in a Western Sydney state high school where its skills and strategies are being implemented across the curriculum in science, history, social sciences, ESL and English.

Sharon has a private practice in which she mentors and teaches students K-12 that range from severely disabled to gifted through the use of specific multisensory methods.

Sharon also consults with and teaches parents enabling them to enhance their children’s learning and retention.  The success of Sharon’s ALERT Learning Program is its structured multisensory simplicity.

Director, Sharyn Whitton

Newport Education Centre specialises in catering for the individual needs of children at all educational levels. Operating on the Northern beaches of Sydney since 1988, we bring over 27 years of experience in tutoring to help ease your child’s educational issues. Owned and operated by Sharyn Whitton, who is highly regarded and respected in the local area and industry, Newport Education Centre provides individual programs for students from Kindergarten right through to year 12.

Our tutors

At Newport Education Centre, our tutors have specialities in a wide variety of areas. They understand how to make learning enjoyable and how to adapt curriculum to the individual needs of your child.

Our experienced tutors know what your child needs to do to achieve success in the classroom we can secure them onto a pathway for success.

Who do we help?

It is probably easier to ask ‘who don’t we help?' as our clientele is wide and varied. It is fair to say that we help students who don’t quite fit into the mainstream.  Over the years we have designed individual programs for children with specific learning difficulties, medical disorders, behaviour disorders, ADD/ADHD diagnosis, gifted and talented students, students sitting for OC tests, selective High Tests and scholarship exams, home-schoolers, travellers and students who are frequently away from school due to sickness, sporting, or acting commitments.  We also cater for average students who are experiencing difficulties in one or more area of study and who are not reaching their potential.

Why is NEC different?

Newport Education Centre on the Northern Beaches has over 27 years of experience in the field.  All of our teachers are qualified, caring and experienced (no university students). Tuition is either one-to-one or two-to-one, with all children working on their own individual programs. This means they are working on what they need to work on when they need it.  Our programs are designed according to the individual needs of your child with consideration given to learning styles, strengths and weaknesses.  Homework is only given when it is requested and can be structured according to the time available at home to complete it.

We happily communicate with schools, occupational therapists, speech therapists, and psychologists who are working with your child to ensure a team approach.  Our office on the Northern Beaches is warm, open, inviting and indusive to learning.  Students may work on homework in the waiting area before or after lessons if they wish.

Full reports are written at the end of each term and parents can communicate with the teachers at the centre giving them the flexibility to make changes to the structure or content of their child’s program at any time.  Lessons can be booked at the centre before, during, or after school, Monday to Thursday, to reach your child’s optimum learning time.

MultiLit, a research initiative of Macquarie University, offers
proven programs to improve reading accuracy, fluency,
comprehension and spelling, designed specifically for
students who are reading at a level significantly below
their peers.

Our most recent analysis has shown that students who
have completed two-term programs at the MultiLit
Literacy Centre made three to six times greater progress
than they were typically making prior to receiving MultiLit
instruction. Our intensive School Holiday Programs
provide similar benefits to our regular programs in an
accelerated format.

Lessons can be completed either at the MultiLit
Literacy Centre (Macquarie Park), online or a combination
of both.
